STROKE (Gross) CHAMPIONSHIP
At Sanctuary Cove on Friday 1st May - 7 inches deluged the Resort and stopped around midnight. It was a testament to just how good the Green Staff at Sanctuary Cove were to get the golf course up and playable by Sunday. For the week of the tournament bunkers were out of play for the Two Ball Best Ball rounds on Monday and Tuesday, however all the bunkers were back in play for the Championship rounds that commenced on Wednesday. An amazing achievement given the amount of rain that was experienced. From Saturday 2nd May and for the whole week - beautiful weather greeted all our senior players - not a cloud in the sky and a slight breeze made the conditions ideal for golf
The mens stroke event was taken out by Colin Kenning from Kiama off a handicap of 1. The final round was on the Pines Course and Col Kenning carded an 81 clearing out to a comfortable win by 12 shots from Matt Briant, Peter Roth and Geoff Hopkins
The Ladies Stroke event was more closely contested with both Tracey Wood (Lakeside at Camden) and Elizabeth Graham (Griffith) all tied going into the final round with June Wills from Bribie Island a further 4 shots back.. With the final round on the Palms Course Tracey returned 87 - the best gross score of the day to win by 4 shots from Elizabeth.

STABLEFORD (Handicap) CHAMPIONSHIP
MENS - 40 points in the first round of the Championships on the Pines Course, helped Geoffrey Hodge (Sanctuary Cove G.C.) take a 1 shot lead into the final round from Michael Walker (RAAF Darwin G.C.). Playing on the Pines Course in round 3, Mike Walker carded an impressive 39 points however Geoff Hodge on his home course was equal to the task and carded a 39 points of his own, to keep his 1 shot advantage and take out the 54 Hole Stableford Championship
LADIES - Margaret Hollis (Port Kembla G.C.) held a 2 shot lead going in to the 3rd Round on the Palms Course from Joy Thomson (Southport G.C.).
However it was Joy's fellow club member from Southport G.C. - Vivienne Ashton who made the charge with a great final round of 36 points in the final round. However Margaret Hollis score of 32 points was enough to win by 3 points from Vivienne to take out the 54 hole Champions title.
